Demographic Transition Model
Mozambique is in Stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Model. This is due to several factors. First, Mozambique's death rates are declining rapidly due to new medicine. This shows that there was a medical revolution, which is what moves a country into a Stage 2 country. The birth rates are steady in Mozambique, so the total population is increasing rapidly, as it would in a Stage 2 country. A rapidly increasing population indicates that there is a very large child population, and this is present in the population pyramid of Mozambique. Finally, Stage 2 countries have a very large dependency ratio due to the large number of children. In Mozambique, the dependency ratio is so high that every working person is almost paying for a whole other person. All of these facts strongly indicate that Mozambique is in Stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Map.
