Demographic Transition Model
Liechtenstein is in Stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model. This is due to Liechtenstein's birth rates, death rates, natural increase rates, and dependency ratio. Liechtenstein has a very low birth rate and, in effect, a low total fertility rate. This shows that a country is a Stage 4 country because women are liberally using contraceptives. The death is also slowly increasing, which is known to be evident in Stage 4 countries. The low birth rates and increasing death rates make a very small natural increase rate. Lastly, the dependency ratio is relatively high because of the increasingly large elderly population. This shows that people are living to an elderly age, which is a sign of development. All of these factors show that Liechtenstein is a Stage 4 country.
